A1. Sam and Max: Flintlocked! is a fan project, based on Steve Purcell's semi-popular dog and rabbit crime-fighting duo, and is supposed to make up for the lost Sam and Max Freelance Police, cancelled without any reason at all by Lucasarts in March of 2004.
Q2. What's the story?
A2. A summary of the premise is: Mysterious circumstances involving Sam and Max declared dead and the disappearance of Flint Paper (their slightly deranged private dick neighbor) are put into motion, but that's all we can say without spoiling the rest of it!
Q3. Who's the bad guy? Conroy Bumpus? Fritz Nunkie? ...Lucasarts?
A3. No comment. We can't really talk about him (he'd do terrible things to us!), but we can give you three hints. One: you've seen him before. Two: His name is hidden in the title of the game. Sort of. The syllables are in there. Three: It isn't Lucasarts.
Q4. Any other Sam and Max characters making a return?
A4. Uh......next question.
Q5. Can I join the team? Please?
A5. Go to the official discussion forums at
Q6. Any demos I can play?
A6. There's the six-room public demo, but there aren't any plans (yet) for future demos. We'll have to see.
Q7. Does this have anything to do with Lucasarts' cancelled Sam and Max game?
A7. No. While the interface is kinda the same (as far as we can imitate), the game has no ties with the cancelled Freelance Police at all, except for the fact that Sam & Max are in it.
Q8. Aren't you afraid Lucasarts is going to sue you?
A8. We had a huge discussion about this, and after much research and asking around, we know that Lucasarts' rights to Sam and Max expire in May 2005, at which point they revert to Steve Purcell. He's already said that he's going to pitch a Sam and Max game to another company as soon as possible. Many gamers are convinced it's Telltale Games, a band of ex-Lucasarts employees, since Telltale has officially stated that they would like to do a Sam and Max game. Whatever happens, Lucasarts will be out of the picture soon, and we can rest easy, as they are the only company with a track record of shutting down fangames based on their licenses.
Q9. What kind of gameplay will it be?
A9. It will be 2D point-n-click. It will be imitating what Freelance Police's engine looked like. Our plans are to make the verbs context-sensitive (so that they change depending on what you click on) but the public demo doesn't feature this.
Q10. Okay, I'm hyped. When's this game gonna be out?
A10. When it's done. We're hoping sometime either next year or the year after. Maybe by 3487 if we're lucky, to be frank. Production isn't what you'd call "speedy," but things are getting finished.
Q11. Where's the bathroom?
A11. Right down the hall, take a left, up the elevator, down the stairs, across the hallway, through the cellar, past the water fountain, and to the left, uh, right, yeah, left. Then, up three doors, up to the attic, down the staircase, through the cellar, up the ladder, into the hallway, down three doors, up the hallway, out the window, and to the right. Yep.
Q12. Okay, let's see if I can find it...
A12. Scram- I mean bye!
